Should you run around making fun of people, they may consider you a troll or a loller. Now, having a laugh while your character is switched to OOC, is fine. But try to remain serious (unless your character is crazy enough to do certain things IC) while you are indeed, In Character. So, that being said, let’s have a look. The most important thing, while you are casually talking or hanging out, your character will not be running. Instead, you can use the toggle walk/run button, which can be different depending on your keyboard. You can find out which key is used for it, by looking in your keybindings. This button will allow you to walk like the NPCs in the city do.
Read up on your Lore. The lore for your character is the background story for its race. Please, know your lore. I’m not too extreme on this, though some people are. But do make sure you know at least some things about the lore/background of your character’s race. For instance, a worgen cannot very easily have been in Stormwind before Gilneas’ gates opened. They also cannot just arrive from the battle for Gilneas today, as it’s been a few years back. Lorebending can be done, but please don’t bend it too far. We don’t want it to snap. Chris, don't think dirty now.
When you use /say to speak, make sure what you say is In Character. Try to avoid typoes as well as you can, but do not worry if you make a mistake. No one is perfect, after all. If you want to say something OOC, either whisper someone, or say it in one of the following manners: 1. /say: ((*OOC message*)) 2. /emote (or /e): – *OOC message* Of course, any variation of such messages is allowed, but the important thing is to make sure people know your character isn’t saying this IC. And when speaking in /say or /e, do not use smileys, as tempting as it is. Again, it happens to the best, so do not worry if you make a mistake, but try to keep it in mind. As for emotes, they are an important aspect of RP. It would be rather boring if we only used /say to talk and our characters never performed any actions. Of course, there are quite a few emotes that blizzard added to the game. The full list is here: http://www.wowwiki.com/List_of_emotes (Credits to WowWiki). Aside from these standard emotes, we can use /emote, or /e in short, to write out any emotes we want. When you do this, you do not have to fill in your name. That is already placed at the start of your emote, unless you use the | (vertical bar) button right at the start of your emote. So, for instance: /e | A loud sneeze can be heard as Jonn turns away, not wanting to sneeze in anyone’s face.
Remember, good RP is not about who uses the most fancy words. It is not about who makes the longest, most detailed emotes. And it’s most definitely not about who has the biggest mouth. RP is about having fun, sharing your creative side with others and working together to create a story fit for the world of Warcraft, where your character gets to shine. RP is a let-out, a way to show how you view the game and how you perfect it to fit your character. Make sure you have fun, act nice to your fellow players (If not IC, then OOC at least) and just let go.
((I apologize if some of these things seem very obvious to you, I do not mean to insult anyone with these posts, however; I wanna make sure everyone can follow, from people who have their very first minutes of RP to people who simply want a once-over to make sure they’re on the right track. So just to be clear: I do not think beginner RP'ers are simple people, or in any way stupid or ignorant. I just wanna help you to get the best possible start.)) | |
